Luis De La Fuente on Gonzalo Garcia: “The most important thing is not to rush into things”

Spain’s national team head coach Luis De La Fuente said it is best to not rush into things after questions about [Real Madrid](https://www.managingmadrid.com) youngster Gonzalo Garcia’s potential place in the national team in the next international break.

Garcia has had a brilliant Club World Cup campaign with Real Madrid, where he is the top scorer of the competition with four goals, while also getting an assist.

Despite great performances, De La Fuente was calm and insisted there should be some time given to the player to prove himself on a more regular basis.

He said: “He’s building up to the belief that he could be a player with a future, but the most important thing is not to rush into things or get carried away by short, immediate performances. He has not even played a single second in La Liga yet.

“What we have to do is give each player their moment. There’s still plenty of time until the next call-up.”

De La Fuente also said that each player has to ‘earn’ the right to play for a team as good as the Spanish national team, although he encourages Garcia to do so.

He said: “You have to earn the chance and the right to occupy a place in a fantastic national team, where there are some wonderful, very high-level players with a fantastic career.

“You have to earn it, but of course I encourage him. I celebrate his performance, because he’s another player who joins this cause.

“I hope there are many Gonzalos, many Huijsens, many Cubarsís.”
