Getafe CF president Ángel Torres has insisted the club is not for sale, dismissing rumours about a move from Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group.
[COPE cover comments](https://www.cope.es/programas/tiempo-de-juego/noticias/angel-torres-desvela-acuerdo-gonzalo-dado-nino-20250708_3182375.html) from Torres today in which he dismisses rumours of a sale after claims Liverpool’s owners were keen.
Fenway appear determined to grow their sports offering, particularly in football, and perhaps build a network similar to ones adapted by their Premier League rivals.
That’s seen them linked with a potential takeover at Getafe, with a report last month saying they may see the Spanish side as the ideal club to buy. That was followed by a claim that they would need €150m to seal the deal.
That same report, though, made it clear that Torres would not let go of the Spanish side easily and was likely to be tough in any negotiations.
He has now publically reiterated that stance, insisting that Getafe are not for sale and Liverpool aren’t in the mix at present.
_“No. It’s been for sale since I arrived,”_ he said.
_“I’ve been here for 25 years, and every year a journalist comes out saying… And now it’s Liverpool. But it’s not for sale. One day I’ll have to leave. But until then, there’s a long way to go.”_
Whether that is enough to deter Fenway Sports Group remains to be seen. While Torres seems determined to insist there is no sale on offer, that does not mean the American group are not considering it.
They have the money to change his mind, and quickly, and his latest comments feel like part of the long game from the current Getafe owner.
