Manager'really likes'Rasmus Hojlund as Man United receive new interest, there is one'sticking point'

The future of Rasmus Hojlund is still very cloudy this summer as Manchester United remain in the market for a new striker.

When Manchester United signed Rasmus Hojlund for £64m, he arrived at Old Trafford as a really exciting prospect with an incredibly high ceiling.

The Dane showed glimpses of brilliance in his first season, but the 2024/25 campaign saw United fans grow frustrated at Hojlund and his poor finishing.

As a result, Hojlund has been linked with an exit this summer with Ineos scouring the market for a new striker to lead Ruben Amorim’s side.

At the same time, Hojlund is happy to stay and United have missed out on several top striker targets which means he could yet keep his spot next season.

Roma showing interest in Rasmus Hojlund deal

Throughout the summer window, interest in Hojlund has mostly arrived from Italy.

Inter Milan held talks over Hojlund but a deal now seems unlikely, while Napoli are also interested in Hojlund.

Now, Danish outlet Tipsbladet report that Roma could make a move for Hojlund with manager Gian Piero Gasperini a big admirer of the Dane.

Hojlund scored 10 goals in 34 matches under Gasperini during their time together at Atalanta, and now the Italian manager is open to reuniting in Rome.

Ineos will only allow Hojlund to leave if a marquee striker is signed at Old Trafford this summer, and at the moment that appears to be a difficult task.

Rasmus Hojlund’s asking price is a ‘sticking point’

Ineos have been struggling to offload United stars this summer, with clubs hesitant to either pay a player’s asking price or meet their lofty wage demands.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma will only consider a loan agreement for Hojlund this summer rather than exploring a permanent deal.

None of the Italian clubs have shown they are willing to meet Hojlund’s £38m asking price this window.

United are open to loaning Hojlund as Ineos still see potential in the 22-year-old, but it seems unlikely to happen without a replacement striker being signed at Old Trafford.

United have already lost out on Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres, and Ineos are finding it difficult to raise funds to compete for the likes of Victor Osimhen or Hugo Ekitike.
