Chelsea avoid embarrassing 2024 repeat as top youngster turns down move to Liverpool - journalist

Chelsea have seen one of their most promising youngsters turn down a move to one of their biggest rivals and commit his future to the Blues.

It is well-documented the talent that Cobham has been able to generate in recent history, however the normal story would be that they would not get their chance to shine at Stamford Bridge.

This has somewhat changed since Enzo Maresca took over as manager. Both Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George have been promoted to become first team players over the last 12 months.

Before that though, Chelsea’s inability to make the most of their promising stars in the past eventually cost them the services of Rio Ngumoha. He joined Liverpool after failing to see a pathway to the top in West London.

Ryan Kavuma-McQueen rejects Liverpool to sign new Chelsea deal

One of the top talents at the academy right now is Ryan Kavuma-McQueen. The forward was a regular for the U18s side last season despite being just 16 years of age.

With Liverpool taking their chance to snap up Ngumoha last summer, it looks as if they made an attempt to do the same with Kavuma-McQueen.

However, journalist Lewis Bower has claimed that the youngster has committed his future to Chelsea, signing a new deal with the club in the process.

He said: “Liverpool were interested in Ryan Kavuma-McQueen but the Chelsea youngster has decided to sign on with Chelsea. A fantastic talent.”

Who is Ryan Kavuma-McQueen?

The 16-year-old has played on both wings for the Chelsea U18s, and enjoyed a prolific season with 11 goals and five assists in 26 games.

He has also dominated when given the chance to represent his country at U16s level. He has scored six goals in 10 games for England at that level.

Kavuma-McQueen was even handed a chance to play for the U21s back in February, and he announced his status as one of the top young players in the country by scoring in that game.

It doesn’t feel like it will be long before the winger is handed his chance to impress in training under Maresca, and making his mark on the first team squad.
