Aston Villa manager Unai Emery wants to keep John McGinn in his squad this summer following Everton's expression of interest in signing the Scotland international.
As first reported by The Athletic, Everton explored the possibility of a move for the 30-year-old, but it's believed that Unai Emery is keen on retaining his captain.
McGinn was named Villa captain in the summer of 2022 by Steven Gerrard - a decision that sparked controversy as he replaced Tyrone Mings in the role.
Since Emery’s appointment, McGinn has remained captain and has continued to play a pivotal role in the club’s rise.
He is Villa’s longest-serving player, having joined in the summer of 2018 just a few months after Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens took control of the club.
Last season, McGinn started 27 Premier League games and featured in 10 of the club’s 12 Champions League fixtures.
He has made a total of 285 appearances for the club in all competitions - 203 of those in the top-flight - ranking him 10th in the club’s appearance makers in the Premier League.
McGinn has two years remaining on his contract after signing an extension in June 2023.
