Yabusele's paycut opens the spots for Knicks to strengthen their depth

Guerschon Yabusele took less money than expected in order to free cap space for the Knicks to make more moves.

New York Knicks are ready to continue their campaign to the NBA Finals after they fell at the last hurdle this season to the Indiana Pacers.

Signing Guerschon Yabusele will immensely help them in rotation, but his signing also brings other benefits.

Yabusele took a small paycut in order to allow the Knicks space to bring more signings in free agency to strengthen the depth of the roster.

Yabusele was assumed to have taken the full taxpayer mid-level exception that would put his 2025-26 salary at $5,685,000.

That would’ve essentially prevented the Knicks from signing another player to a veteran minimum while meeting the roster requirements of 14 players and staying below the hard-capped second apron.

However, it was revealed on Saturday (a day before the NBA moratorium lifted) that Yabusele had actually taken less than the full TPMLE. According to Fred Katz, his 2025-26 salary will come in at $5.5 million, saving his new team $185,000.
