Gabriel Gudmundsson has completed his transfer to Leeds United and he now has a simple decision to make.
Leeds United are aiming to have a much busier week in the transfer window after the last was dominated by Sunderland beating them to targets, like Habib Diarra.
Things have got off to a strong start after the £10m arrival of Gabriel Gudmundsson from Lille was confirmed on Tuesday, July 8.
Finding a replacement for the departed Junior Firpo was the most crucial task facing Daniel Farke this summer and the manager has got his man in the form of the 26-year-old Sweden international.
Gudmundsson has put pen to paper on a four-year deal that will keep him at Elland Road until 2029 and further enhances the defence ahead of the Premier League season.
He is the third new defender to arrive at the club following Sebastiaan Bornauw and Jaka Bijol, while free agent Lukas Nmecha is the other signing so far.
With four new players in already and several more expected, Leeds have plenty of new squad numbers to give out this summer, but Gudmundsson’s should be easy to decide.

Gabriel Gudmundsson’s new shirt number should be simple for Leeds United
There are several shirt numbers up for grabs at Leeds this summer but the most obvious choice for Gudmundsson is the now vacant No.3.

Firpo wore the number with distinction at Leeds, especially last season when he directly contributed to 14 goals thanks to his 10 assists and four strikes.
The Dominican played an integral role in Farke’s side and has left Gudmundsson with big boots to fill.
However, there should be no fear of him adopting the No.3, which is the most quintessential number for a left-back in English football.

Gudmundsson might not be the only new signing eyeing the No.3, though, given that two other defenders have signed for the club.
The digit might appeal to Bornauw in particular, as the Belgian wore No.3 for four seasons at his last club, Wolfsburg.
Bijol tends to wear No.6 for his country and No.29 for his clubs, but with both of those taken at Leeds, he might find No.3 a good option, too.

So there are plenty of good options available for new signings, and some might take Gudmundsson’s fancy if someone else claims No.3 first.
The left-back has worn No.15 for Lille and Groningen. He currently wears No.5 for club and country, so he might have an affinity for No.5 that will draw him to the figure.
Gudmundsson has previously worn No.12 in France, too.
