Ramón Sosa is set to be announced at Palmeiras in a deal worth around €14m.
The winger has agreed to a five-year contract with the Brazilian club, leaving Nottingham Forest after less than a year after he signed from Talleres.
The transfer is expected to become official in the coming hours, as Sosa has already arrived in São Paulo to complete the final formalities.
The Paraguayan was filmed at the airport this morning, avoiding the press as he made his way through arrivals.
After limited opportunities at Nottingham Forest, where he registered just two goals and two assists, Sosa is now returning to South American football as one of Palmeiras’ biggest investments of the window.
Paraguayan commentator Salvador Hicar welcomed the move and highlighted the importance of the player’s mental recovery after a difficult time in England.
“The important thing is that he feels well and recovers that mental state. Because Nottingham Forest did not give him the opportunity he needed. He played very few minutes, just two goals, two assists.”
He added: “At Palmeiras, which is a big club, with a fan base that will support him, with a coaching staff that will value him, he will surely recover that mental state he needs to become the Ramón Sosa we all know again.”
Meanwhile, Carlos Ortega, secretary at River Plate (one of Sosa’s former clubs) expressed frustration at how little the Argentine side benefited from the player’s move to England. “We received very little when Ramón left for Nottingham”.
With all terms agreed and the player already in Brazil, the official announcement from Palmeiras now appears to be only a matter of time.
