Report: Jose Mourinho attempts to hijack Leeds United's £19m talks with player-plus-cash bid

Leeds United are locked in talks with a few targets as Adam Underwood looks to bring in an influx of new talent in the next week or two, with a new goalkeeper a priority for the Elland Road transfer team.

Leeds have announced the signing of Sweden left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson for a £10m fee, while they have made a £12m bid to sign Sean Longstaff. The Newcastle midfielder has agreed personal terms.

Elsewhere, Leeds remain in talks for Hoffenheim’s Anton Stach while the club are expected to bolster their U21 side. Teen defenders Louis Enohoro-Marcus and Jayden Lienou are set to join Scott Gardner’s side.

In goal, Leeds have been linked with plenty of options. Lyon’s Brazilian shot-stopper Lucas Perri has been strongly linked but at this moment in time, Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic looks like Leeds’ top target.

Jose Mourinho attempts to hijack Leeds move for £19m star

Torino and Serbia giant Milinkovic-Savic has a release clause in his contract worth £19m for foreign clubs, and around £16.4m for Italian sides. Leeds have intensified talks for Milinkovic-Savic in the last 24 hours.

Napoli are interested but are unwilling to meet his asking price, even though the 6ft 8in goalkeeper is £2.6m cheaper for Antonio Conte’s Serie A champions. Now, Jose Mourinho is keen on Milinkovic-Savic.

Fenerbahce were linked with Illan Meslier as they look to replace Dominik Livakovic, but nothing came of the reports. Now, Sporx say Fenerbahce have made an unusual bid to sign Leeds target Milinkovic-Savic.

Indeed, Fenerbahce don’t want to pay the release clause either and have therefore offered Torino a fee of £4.3m plus Brazilian defender Rodrigo Becao. The report says Torino are yet to provide a response.

Torino are already planning for life without Milinkovic-Savic

It might be unclear where Milinkovic-Savic will end up this summer with Napoli, Fenerbahce and Leeds all making their interest known. But one thing is for sure, and that is Torino are planning for life without him.

Indeed, reports say Torino have identified a replacement and will make their move to sign Lecce stopper Wladimiro Falcone. Clearly, the Serie A side feel their giant goalkeeper will be leaving in due course.

Whether Leeds can stave off the interest of Italy’s best side and Champions League football, or the lure of Mourinho, remains to be seen. But perhaps, Milinkovic-Savic just wants a move to the Premier League.
