How Derrick White is Still Helping San Antonio Spurs

After two Finals appearances, a ring, and two All-Defensive nods, Derrick White is known as a Boston Celtic. Of course, before that, he was a promising young player for the San Antonio Spurs, who picked him 29th overall in the 2017 NBA Draft.

While White has certainly moved on to bigger and better things with the Celtics, he still has a soft spot for San Antonio and is a salesperson for the Spurs, in a sense.

When free agent center Luke Kornet was considering his options, White helped nudge him to the Spurs.

"There are quite a few people in Boston who have been here in San Antonio before," Kornet said. "And Derrick had nothing but positive things to say. And I know a few people. Part of the organization just kind of proceeds itself. But then, Derrick obviously, like it was such a great place for him. And he's kind of come to his own in Boston."

With the Spurs, Kornet is hoping to continue his growth and looks forward to playing a bigger role as the second-string center behind only Victor Wembanyama.

"I honestly just felt like a time for kind of this calling to just more responsibility," he added.

In Boston, Kornet found success but was buried on the depth chart behind Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford. With the Spurs, he will still be the backup, although he is expected to share the floor with the starters and continue to break out and improve on his new team.
