Newcastle United and Manchester City both have the chance to do some transfer business this summer
Newcastle United are back in the Champions League and will want to add some more quality to their ranks. Eddie Howe’s side managed to finish in the top five last term. The Toon Army will be eager to show what they can do in Europe in the next campaign.
As for Manchester City, they under-performed by their standards but despite missing out on the title, they managed to improve their form as the season progressed. Pep Guardiola remains in the dugout at the Etihad Stadium. He has boosted his squad with plenty of new faces already this summer and has the opportunity to land more over the next couple of months.
Newcastle United linked with Jack Grealish at Manchester City
Newcastle are keen on Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, according to The Sun. The report suggests he has a price tag of around the £40 million mark. In addition, Tottenham Hotspur have been mentioned as suitors along with Napoli in Serie A. Grealish, 29, could be seen by Howe as someone to boost his attacking department. If he joined, he would give the North East outfit something different going forward. In addition, he could inject some valuable experience into their dressing room.
The England international, who has made 39 caps for his country so far, could do with leaving City in the near future for the sake of his career. His time under Guardiola has turned stale now and he needs a change of scene. Newcastle would be an ideal next destination for him and can offer him European football.
Grealish started out at Aston Villa and rose up through the academy ranks of his boyhood club. He was a regular at various different youth levels and was also loaned out to Notts County to get some experience under his belt in the Football League. The Birmingham-born man then broke into the first-team at Villa Park and made 213 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with 32 goals.
City came calling in 2021 and he has since won the Premier League title, Champions League and FA Cup with the North West giants. He has fired 17 goals in 157 outings for them to date. His long-term future is up in the air now though and it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that he will head out the exit door for a fresh chapter somewhere else.
Manchester City admirers of Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento
City are admirers of Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento, who is valued at a hefty £80m, according to Football Insider. The Magpies don’t want to sell him, hence why is price tag is so high, and they rate him very highly. He has been with them since joining from Southampton back in 2023.
At the age of 22, the defender has bags of potential and will only get better down the line. He has a bright future ahead of him and will be eyeing more matches for England. The London-born man has been a regular for the Three Lions at various different levels but has only featured one for the senior team so far.
City have their work cut out if they are to try and get him out of Newcastle. The Toon Army’s interest in Grealish could play to their advantage though. Guardiola should propose a Grealish plus £40m in cash transfer swap deal to attempt to persuade his counterparts into a sale.
That is an arrangement that could potentially suit Howe’s side. They would be getting a player in return who they are keen on and would boost their attack. They would also pick up an extra £40m that could go towards bringing in a top class replacement.
Livramento played for Chelsea as a teenager but was sold before he had time to break into their first-team. The hierarchy at Stamford Bridge may well be kicking themselves about cashing in on him so early now based on his recent development. He cut his teeth at Southampton after switching to the Saints in 2021 and he made 34 outings for the Hampshire club, scoring one goal from the back.
The right-back then linked up with Newcastle and hasn’t looked back since. He has featured on 80 occasions for his current team and enjoys regular game time up north. He is under the terms of a long-term contract so they are under no pressure to sell him just yet and can wait for the right money to come in for him.
