Wolves have the chance to bring in some new faces over the next couple of months
Wolves have the opportunity to freshen up their ranks with some new faces this summer. The Midlands outfit have seen the likes of Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri head out the exit door already since the end of last season. They have joined Manchester United and Manchester City respectively.
Vitor Pereira has done an impressive job since taking over at Molineux midway through the last campaign. He was picked as their replacement for Gary O’Neil. The Portuguese head coach has since adapted well to life in English football.
Wolves target Thomas Kristensen transfer deal
According to Messaggero Veneto, Wolves are still interested in a move for £13million-rated Udinese defender Thomas Kristensen. They had an offer rejected for the player in the January transfer window but remain keen. However, they face competition from Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest and AFC Bournemouth, as well as some unnamed teams in the Bundesliga.
Kristensen, 23, has been with his current club since joining them in 2023 and is one of their most prized assets. They are likely to face a real battle to keep hold of him over the next couple of months amid attention from elsewhere. He has enjoyed plenty of game time with them over the last two years and has made over 50 appearances.
The Denmark youth international, who is still waiting on his senior debut, started his career with spells in the academies at Galten FS, Vejle and AGF before breaking into the first-team of the latter. He penned a new five-year deal with Udinese back in 2023. Therefore, he remains under the terms of a long-term contract and the Serie A outfit are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon and can wait for the right offer to come in for his signature.
Why Thomas Kristensen would suit Wolves
Kristensen would give Wolves more competition and depth at the back. If he joined, he would give them another option to pick from at the back. He stands at 6ft 6inc which means he should be a threat in the air from set-pieces.
He is still relatively young and has potential to develop down the line. Pereira is gearing up for his first full term in charge and will want to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad. He should have money to spend as well as Cunha and Ait-Nouri’s departures.
Pereira said in May: "It's important to bring players that want to come, that want to live in Wolverhampton, that want to play in the best league of the world and that are family players, with the character and with the personality to work in a simple, but beautiful city.
"The nature is beautiful and the competition, in my opinion, is the best in the world. It means that we must go for players that really want to come as much as me. A lot of players are trying to come because they want to play in the Premier League and players that have worked with me."
He added: "In this moment, agents start to send players, a lot of players and it means that they want to come. But we need (players) with hunger, with a hunger to play here and to achieve something special. Everything you do in this league, the impact is huge. It is a world impact and this is what we can attract them with – with the league and with the people, because I like the people. I like the people here because they are a bit like me, simple – and I like simple people."
