Anthony Elanga is having a medical ahead of his £55m move from Nottingham Forest
Anthony Elanga has arrived on Tyneside to put the finishing touches to his £55million transfer from Nottingham Forest to Newcastle United.
The Swede flew into Newcastle Airport from Portugal this afternoon after the two clubs agreed terms on a deal that will make the winger the first signing of the summer.
Newcastle will pay Forest up to £55m including add-ons to land the services of the ex-Manchester United man. Elanga is understood to have already agreed personal terms with the club.
The forward arrived at Newcastle's Benton training ground earlier this evening, having dashed from the airport where he had landed on a private jet. The player was dressed casually in a brown top and shorts and was videoed by Sky Sports.
Newcastle are not expecting any issues with the medical. Elanga has enjoyed a superb run of fitness over the last two years and played in every Premier League game for Forest as they qualified for Europe.
Elanga is renowned as one of the fittest and fastest players in the Premier League, and clocked 10.93 seconds in a 100m run over in Portugal before heading to Tyneside.
The player has now headed to a facility in the North East where he will undergo a series of medical tests.
It is expected he will be formally be announced as a Newcastle player over the next 48 hours and will join the team on their pre-season training camp to Austria.
Elanga is already close friends with Newcastle forward William Osula, with the pair pictured holidaying together last week. He also classes international teammate Alexander Isak as a close friend as well as another Swede, Emil Krafth.
Elanga will challenge Jacob Murphy for a starting role on the right flank, but is also capable of playing centrally and on the left side.
At £55m, he becomes the joint most expensive signing in Newcastle's history, alongside Sandro Tonali. Isak is the club's record signing at £63m.
