Manchester United’s new era under Ruben Amorim is beginning to take shape, even as the club continue to miss out on major targets in Liam Delap.
Another one of those is Viktor Gyokeres.
The Sporting striker whose name had been heavily linked with United earlier in the summer.
Despite his former ties to Amorim, Gyokeres has instead moved closer to a switch to Arsenal.
Attracted by the promise of Champions League football, and long-term vision under Mikel Arteta.

United’s lack of European elite competition following a disastrous 15th-place Premier League finish and Europa League final defeat to Spurs has proven costly in several pursuits.
Now, Gyokeres has spoken publicly about his time under Amorim, offering glowing praise for the man who transformed his career.
Speaking to L’Equipe, the Swedish forward said, “We won two championships in a row, for the first time in 71 years.
“It’s an incredible achievement, and of course, Ruben Amorim played a big role in that.
“I can’t thank him enough.
“The style of play we had under his orders suited me perfectly.”

He also admitted he was shocked by Amorim’s decision to leave Sporting mid-season for United, but expressed his understanding for the move.
“It was a shock,” he admitted.
“It’s never happened to me to see a manager leave in the middle of the season when everything was going well.
“It was surprising, but I totally understand his decision.”
Gyokeres is now closing in on a deal to join Arsenal, even going as far as waiving €2 million in salary to help push the transfer through.
If the deal is finalised in time, his first Premier League match will be at Old Trafford – against Amorim’s United – on August 17.
