Striker Rasmus Hojlund is facing an uncertain future at Manchester United after failing to impress since his arrival at the club.
He is currently more ‘likely to leave than stay‘ at Old Trafford.
United want to sign a striker, and the arrival of one could limit Hojlund’s game time next season as the club aim to bounce back from last term’s disappointment.
Serie A giants Inter Milan have been linked with him, but are proposing a loan deal plus an option to buy for €45 million. However, it remains to be seen whether United would accept their offer.
Meanwhile, Napoli may have ended their interest in the 22-year-old. They are now giving preference to a move for Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez and Udinese’s Lorenzo Lucca.
Juventus are also unlikely to intensify their interest in him, having recently signed Canada international Jonathan David as a free agent.
Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has now tipped AS Roma to join the race for his signature after the club appointed Gian Piero Gasperini, his former manager at Atalanta.
He told Tipsbladet: “Roma will probably come on board because Gasperini really likes him, but it can only succeed as a loan deal.”
Hojlund enjoyed a breakout season under Gasperini, registering 10 goals and four assists in 34 games. His performances under the Italian tactician influenced his transfer to United.
A move to the Italian side would see him rival Artem Dovbyk, who joined the club last summer.
Winning a place in the starting line-up ahead of Dovbyk would not be straightforward for Hojlund as the Ukrainian was decent for Roma last term, scoring 17 goals in 45 games.
Di Marzio also revealed that he is on AC Milan’s radar, but the club has given priority to other targets.
He added that Italian clubs ‘who are without a striker’ will approach him towards the end of the transfer window.
With uncertainty regarding United’s search for a new striker, Hojlund’s future would probably be decided late in the transfer window.
