Mavs Announce Eye Injury Surgery for 10-Time All-Star Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis has suffered his fair share of injuries throughout his All-NBA career, but last season was an especially tough season to endure.

Shortly after being a forgotten part of one of the most scrutinized trades in NBA history, Davis had rehabbed an oblique injury ... only to go down in the first game he ever played in a Mavs uniform, injuring his groin and sitting out the next six weeks.

Davis would return to play out the rest of the regular season, but it has now come out that he still dealt with some discomfort.

Reports confirm that Davis has undergone a procedure to repair a detached retina in his eye from an injury suffered during the season. He is expected to be healthy in time for the Mavericks' training camp later this summer - his first after being traded for Luka Doncic by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Davis played just 11 games for Dallas last season (regular and postseason), but none were as memorable as that debut where he had 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks before his injury.

In total, Davis has averaged 33.5 points and nine rebounds per game with the Mavs.

Davis' health will be crucial for the Mavericks getting off to a strong start to next season with star running mate Kyrie Irving out for at least the first few months with a torn ACL. His scoring ability is expected to shoulder major responsibility along with his already excellent defensive prowess.

The 6-11 post man's veteran leadership presence will also be vital in development and teamwork with star rookie Cooper Flagg, a fellow No. 1 overall pick.
