Radio Hosts Defends Blasting Patrick Mahomes Over Offseason ‘Belly Fat’

In what he is dubbing as "the least controversial thing in the history of sports commentary," a Kansas City radio host is defending his stance after calling out Patrick Mahomes over his offseason "belly fat" and his inability to get serious about putting his body in the best shape possible ahead of the NFL season.

Earlier this week, radio and podcast host Kevin Kietzman blasted the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback after a photo surfaced showing the three-time Super Bowl champion on a boat with friends. In the photo, the 29-year-old is shirtless and sporting what many are considering to be a so-called "dad bod."

Kietzman called out Mahomes over his "belly fat," which Kietzman said prompted Mahomes' trainer to come after him on X.

"Vacation photos are popping up of Patrick Mahomes, and he's fat," Kietzman said on Monday's show. "I'm gonna say it, and I'm gonna tell you the truth, that's why you hit the play button, he's an embarrassment."

He added, "Dude, you're fat. Your belly would be fat at my pool, hanging out with us, 60-year-olds. My skin is flabbier than yours, I get it. Stop. Stop the fast food. Do a sit-up. Do something."

In a new episode that dropped Tuesday, the radio host doubled down on his take.

"It's always silly when somebody says something true and it creates a controversy. Patrick Mahomes has belly fat. He's also changed the way the game is played and is the greatest player of his generation," the episode's description reads. "Reaction to my buried in the back of the podcast comments Monday went viral after Mahomes' trainer came after me on social media. He's the first trainer in history to argue that belly fat is a good thing ... it's your option to find it charming and good ... it's my job to point out the belly fat will be gone someday when Mahomes gets serious like other athletes in their 30's."

Mahomes, who turns 30 in September, has for some time now has been the recipient of criticism over his "dad bod," and Kietzman is letting him have it again.

"Patrick Mahomes puts a lot of things ahead of being in the best shape he can be for football. He does," Kietzman says. "He's doing it old school -- he's coming to training camp to get in shape. He will lose weight. His belly fat will fade. It won't look like it did on that boat. It won't. But this is the least controversial thing in the history of sports commentary. If your argument is you looked at those photos and you don't think Patrick Mahomes has belly fat and hasn't been serious this offseason about getting rid of it, because that's all we heard: 'New haircut, new dedication, we got embarrassed in the Super Bowl, everything's different this time, best shape of my career, we're going for this, we're going to let our play do the talking.' That's all we heard. OK? I'm not saying he didn't work out in the offseason. But if his trainer is defending him, saying 'Name a great a Hall of Fame quarterback or a Hall of Fame pitcher with a six pack.' That was literally his argument. And I'm like, 'Um, Tom Brady after he turned 30? The greatest of all time?'"

Mahomes and the Chiefs report to training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri on July 21.
