Manchester United have been linked with a host of players ever since the end of last season with the Red Devils needing significant reinforcements to the squad.
Ruben Amorim was almost given a free rope last season as he came in midway through the campaign but he knows that he will be under tremendous pressure in the coming months.
News –Report – Man United will ‘welcome’ signing of £30million star
One position that the Red Devils seem to very clearly want to reinforce is the striker position. In fact, attackers in general seem to appeal a lot to the English club, with Man Utd already securing a move for Matheus Cunha from Wolves, who looks set to inherit the #10 jersey at Old Trafford.
With the exception of center-back and maybe right-back where the team is well sorted with the options that they have currently, Man Utd have work to do in all other areas of the pitch.
Now, as per Goal Brasil, the club have started negotiations to sign talented Atalanta midfield star Ederson.
Atalanta have always held the Brazilian midfielder in high regard and he has repaid their faith in him with solid performances for the past couple of seasons.
Man Utd are not the only club interested in signing him this summer, with Juventus and Inter Milan also wanting him to join them.
Ederson is predominantly a defensive midfielder who loves to pop up with a long-range striker from outside the box, now and then!
The 26-year-old is very good at winning the ball back in midfield and he also is very adept with playing passes to the more creative options ahead of him on the pitch.
Too big an investment?
Atalanta are said to be asking for around £52million to part ways with the player this summer. The Italian club want to ensure they make the most of the opportunity that they have and they would be hoping for the interested clubs to get into a bidding war for the Brazilian midfield talent.
However, considering the asking price, Man Utd need to make a significant investment to sign Ederson this summer and that might not be a wise decision, considering they already have Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro in the squad. Amorim already has two defensive minded options in midfield and doesn’t need another.
Casemiro in particular looks to have rediscovered his mojo in the last few months of the 2024/25 campaign.
The Brazilian will be looking to continue his good form next season and this effectively closes the door for Ederson. It remains to be seen how things play out with regards to this transfer saga in the coming weeks.
