Bruno Guimaraes responds as linked-away Newcastle United star returned to pre-season training

Some of the Newcastle United squad are back in pre-season training, and Bruno Guimaraes was delighted to see Kieran Trippier among them.

Trippier has been one of the most important players in Newcastle United’s modern history but may not have a starting berth again next season.

Indeed, Lewis Hall is making good progress on his return from injury, which means Tino Livramento could be restored to right-back ahead of the 2025/26 season.

As such, Trippier may need to make do with a bench role at best. The 34-year-old returned to form last season, but Trippier has been linked with a move away from Newcastle.

Still, while his long-term future is unclear, Trippier was back at the Newcastle United training ground on Monday as pre-season preparations began.

On Monday, the former England international took to social media platform Instagram.

Amid a lot of talk about his future at St James’ Park, the defender captioned a collage of images of him being put through his paces: “Good to be back.”

Guimaraes, who posted a video of himself in the gym back in Brazil having been afforded slightly more time off due to playing for his country in June, responded with a love heart eyes emoji.

Newcastle United fans want Kieran Trippier to stay

The former Tottenham and Atletico Madrid defender still has a year to run on his contract.

Newcastle fans want Trippier to stay, while Eddie Howe has constantly talked up his importance in the squad.

It would be understandable if he wanted to secure as much first-team football as possible in the autumn of his career. He’s unlikely to get that next season, although the fact Newcastle will be playing Champions League football will offer him more game time.

In an ideal world, Newcastle would keep Trippier. They can only be stronger with him in the squad.
