Manchester City are planning to accept a £25million offer for James McAtee as four clubs are racing to sign him this summer.

The recent arrivals of Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki have pushed the 22-year-old down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium.

Football Insider revealed on 2 July McAtee wants to leave Man City for the good of his development, with first-team football his priority.

Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are believed to be keen on signing the midfielder, while multiple clubs in the Bundesliga have also registered their interest in his services.

McAtee, who has 12 months left to run on his contract, has already tasted success this summer after captaining England’s Under-21 side to the European Championships trophy.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the club will accept a £25million offer for their academy product.

Man City could include James McAtee buy-back clause

Borson insisted Man City could look to include a buy-back clause in any deal for McAtee this summer.

He told Football Insider: “I think City are realistic about his fee because he’s in the final year of his contract.

“He’s obviously not going to sign another contract.

“I think there’s a good bit of competitive tension in that deal and that process.

“I think there are three or four clubs that were interested in taking him for £25million, and I think, therefore, that’s what the deal will be.

“Given there are so many clubs interested, City may well try and get some kind of buyback that they’ve had before, but I would expect him to go.”
