**Newcastle United are likely just hours away from completing the deal to sign Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga for a reported £55 million fee.**
The Sweden star touched down in Newcastle at around 5:30 pm on Tuesday to complete his medical and put the finishing touches on his move, which we expect will all be done today or early tomorrow. As for when the announcement arrives, we aren't sure, Newcastle have never been very quick to confirm anything recently.
Elanga's arrival should hopefully be the first domino to fall in what's still expected to be a busy summer for the Magpies in the transfer market, despite a painfully slow start.
Eddie Howe still has several positions to fill including a new goalkeeper, because five just isn't enough, a central defender and a new striker.

Keith Downie expects Newcastle to prioritise signing a striker next
-------------------------------------------------------------------
While a move for Burnley's James Trafford is still up in the air, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has suggested on X that Newcastle's priority after wrapping up the Elanga deal is to find a new striker to compete with Alexander Isak.
> 🚨 Once Newcastle complete the signing of £55m Anthony Elanga, they will turn their attention to bringing in a striker. 🌑 #NUFC want a striker to act as a foil to Alexander Isak and will prioritise that position. 🫡 Callum Wilson left yesterday, leaving the striking department light.

Newcastle are going to struggle to bring in a striker of the right calibre
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's still plenty of debate amongst reporters as to whether Newcastle are or are not interested in former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but as we've said many times, he can not be our answer. His injury record suggests he'd be like Callum Wilson and never available to give Isak a rest, and not good enough to pick up the slack when he is.
The problem is that a striker of the quality Newcastle needs will not come cheap, nor are many likely to want to move to a club where they're clearly going to be second choice.
Let's hope Will Osula is feeling feisty because we can honestly see Newcastle failing to bring in adequate support for Isak this summer.
