West Ham United's Emma Snerle delivered a composed and hard-working performance in Denmark’s 2–1 loss to Germany at this afternoon's Euro 2025 match.
Starting in midfield, the Irons star linked play effectively and contributed both defensively and creatively - winning fouls and delivering key set pieces.
With Denmark having taken an early lead through Amalie Vangsgaard's powerful 26th minute strike, Snerle's pinpoint corner before half-time nearly led to a second goal, showcasing her value from dead-ball situations.
She also drew a foul and committed three tactical infringements herself, helping Denmark negate Germany’s attacking threat ahead of the break - although VAR also played its part with a German goal disallowed and a penalty claim dismissed.
The night ended in controversy for Snerle however shortly after Germany had levelled the score through Sjoeke Nusken 11 minutes after the restart, when the midfielder was involved in a clash of heads and staggered to her feet before collapsing.
Despite exhibiting clear signs of distress, play was allowed to continue by referee Catarina Campos - and Germany scored what ultimately proved to be the winning goal during the same passage of play.
The incident drew criticism from commentators and viewers alike, with many suggesting the game should have been paused due to a potential head injury. A clearly hurt Snerle was eventually replaced by Josefine Hasbo before the game restarted.
Despite the disappointing result, the Hammers player stood out as one of Denmark’s most reliable performers—calm, disciplined, and crucial to their midfield engine.
The Danes face Poland in their final group match on Saturday in what will be a battle to avoid the wooden spoon, with neither side yet to pick up a point from their first two outings. You may view highlights from the game below.
