Dolphins Predicted to Replace Jalen Ramsey With Young Award Winner

The Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers completed a blockbuster trade last week that sent the Dolphins' No. 1 cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers. Although the Dolphins got All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick back, the trade still left a gaping hole at the cornerback position in Miami.

Whether the Dolphins decide to rely on the guys they have left to step up and fill the void for 2025, or they go out and find a veteran to step in this season, Miami will need to find a long-term solution at the position.

Pro Football Network's Max Dorsey recently predicted the Dolphins would find their cornerback for the future in the 2026 NFL Draft in his most recent mock draft.

Dorsey predicted the Dolphins would draft Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy with the 13th overall pick.

"After trading Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers, the Miami Dolphins are left with one of the league’s weakest cornerback units. Drafting Jermod McCoy here would be a significant step toward addressing that issue," Dorsey wrote. "McCoy showcased strong vision and instincts in 2024, recording four interceptions for the Volunteers.

"He’s a high-level athlete with fluid hips, elite play speed, and the ability to stick in man coverage. The young corner also plays with physicality and is among the best press-man defenders in college football."

McCoy will be entering his junior season this year, after playing his freshman year at Oregon State and his sophomore year with the Volunteers.

The cornerback had a strong freshman year with the Beavers, collecting 31 tackles, seven passes defended, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a TFL, and he grew on that last year in Tennessee.

McCoy accumulated 44 tackles, nine passes defended, four interceptions, and a TFL in 2024. He earned 2024 All-SEC First Team honors from the AP and was a 2024 Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist. In 2025, McCoy has been named to the Preseason All-America First Team.

With another year of experience in the SEC, McCoy should only continue to develop his skills. The Dolphins need an answer at the cornerback position, and McCoy could be the solution in 2026.
