Manchester United star backs Amorim to make necessary changes this summer

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez backed manager Ruben Amorim in making the necessary changes that the club needs this summer. Amorim succeeded Erik ten Hag in the middle of the last season after United endured a disastrous start once again.

The Red Devils suffered the same fate under Ten Hag during the 2023-24 season, summing up an excruciating managerial tenure. Ten Hag signed many high-profile players for an enormous amount, who failed to live up to the club’s enormous expectations.

The Critics questioned the Dutchman’s preference to sign the players he had worked with before, players who struggled to perform. However, Martinez was one exception who rejoined Ten Hag at United from Ajax and thrived as the combative central defender.

Lisandro Martinez backed manager Ruben Amorim in making the necessary changes at Manchester United this summer.

Unfortunately, the Argentina international has struggled with frequent serious injuries, sidelining him several times during his short tenure at United. The 27-year-old has missed 99 games for both United and his country since joining the Red Devils in 2022 summer.

In an interview with Clank Media hosted by journalist Juan Pablo Varsky (via YouTube), Martinez backed Amorim to make the necessary changes at United during this summer transfer window. He said:

“I think that, like any club, if something isn’t working, it needs to be changed. It’s necessary to analyse what’s working and what isn’t and make changes accordingly because that’s how great clubs operate. Manchester is one of the best clubs in the world. Now Ruben Amorim has arrived with very good energy and willingness. I believe he will make the necessary changes. Without a doubt, change is needed, because where we ended up in the table over the last two seasons is unacceptable.”

United finished 15th in the Premier League last season and lost the Europa League final to domestic rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The humiliating season involved the squad’s failure to adjust to Amorim’s tactical preference of a 3-4-2-1 formation after his arrival.

The Portuguese have used a ruthless stance in the transfer market, putting undesired players for sale and demanding quality recruitment. Amorim wants a squad overhaul, while focusing on quality over quantity, as United lack European competition fixtures in their schedule.

Next season is an opportunity for the United boss to implement his plan and kickstart the project to rejuvenate United. As for Martinez, previous reports covered by We All Follow United suggested that the Argentine is a part of Amorim’s plan.
