Manchester United have a glaring need for a new striker.
After finishing a disappointing 15th in the Premier League last season, the attack was one of their biggest issues.
United scored just 44 goals, the fifth-lowest total in the league.
It’s an obvious area where they must improve.
The signing of Matheus Cunha has added some much-needed depth, but it’s not enough.
With Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund both enduring a difficult campaign, a proven No.9 remains a top priority.
Viktor Gyokeres had emerged as United’s primary target, but recent developments suggest he is now set to join Arsenal instead.
This comes after Liam Delap had already turned United down for Chelsea earlier in the window.
So, where do United turn next?
Here are five alternatives the club could pursue as they look to bolster their frontline ahead of the new season.

Victor Osimhen
Victor Osimhen seems like the standout striker candidate for Manchester United.
He’s an experienced number 9 who guarantees goals and brings everything an Amorim striker needs.
Osimhen can run the channels, hold the ball up, and dominate the box.
He’s physical, quick, and would have no problem adapting to the Premier League.
He’s the dream target for a number of top clubs.
However, the major stumbling block with Osimhen is his wages.
Many clubs have backed away from a move due to how high his salary demands are expected to be.
Additionally, over the last few days, reports have come out that Osimhen has rejected a move to Manchester United, instead preferring a permanent switch to Galatasaray.
While the move isn’t confirmed yet, it looks increasingly likely United will have to turn their attention elsewhere.

Ollie Watkins
Manchester United have recently made Ollie Watkins a top target for the summer.
He already has Premier League experience and looks like another strong fit for Amorim, with his channel running and hold-up play a key strength.
Watkins would allow United to go a little more direct when needed, and offers the kind of movement and energy Amorim looks for in a striker.
At 29, Watkins also brings experience and could act as a mentor for United’s younger strikers, especially Chido Obi, who is highly rated at the club.
However, United will face competition from Newcastle, and it may prove difficult to persuade Aston Villa to sell to a Premier League rival.
That could make this a tough deal to get over the line.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Now, reports have suggested that Manchester United are looking at making a shock move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The striker is currently a free agent after leaving Everton at the end of last month.
Calvert-Lewin would add depth and experience to a struggling United frontline.
However, this looks more like a backup option, with the 27-year-old’s injury history and recent form unlikely to instantly elevate United’s attack.
Hugo Ekitike
Laurie Whitwell has reported that Manchester United are also interested in Hugo Ekitike.
The French forward is one of the most exciting options on this list, coming off an impressive season at Eintracht Frankfurt where he finally showed his potential at the top level.
Ekitike offers a mix of qualities that suit Amorim’s style well.
He can run the channels, score goals, and drop between the lines to link play.
His creativity and movement make him more than just a goal poacher, and at 6’3″, he also provides a real aerial threat.
However, the big concern is the price.
Frankfurt are reportedly demanding €80–90 million, which will be tough for United to pay, especially with other areas of the squad still needing investment.
They’ll also face strong competition from Liverpool, who are said to be pushing hard for Ekitike.
With Liverpool now Premier League champions, that could be a difficult battle for United to win.

Benjamin Sesko
Benjamin Sesko has been linked with Manchester United for some time, but the expectation had always been that he would end up at Arsenal.
However, with Arsenal now pushing hard for Viktor Gyokeres, the door could reopen for United to make their move.
Sesko is a highly talented young striker with a knack for scoring exceptional goals.
He’s not as ready-made as some of the other names on this list, but his potential is undeniable.
Still young, he has all the tools to develop into a top forward – he’s quick, strong, technically sharp, and comfortable finishing in a variety of ways.
If RB Leipzig are willing to negotiate a reasonable fee, Sesko could be a smart signing for both Ruben Amorim and Manchester United.
He may not be the most proven option, but he’s certainly one of the most exciting.
