Report: Juventus to offer Dusan Vlahovic potential contract termination

Once Juventus’ time at the Club World Cup came to an end, it finally felt like the official end of the road for Dusan Vlahovic had arrived. While we didn’t know for sure when he was going to no longer be a Juventus player, we knew his chances of wearing bianconero again were slim to none.

We also didn’t know how he would be leaving, either.

Well, other than potentially making things extremely difficult for new Juve general manager Damien Comolli and Co. this summer.

Their solution? Well, it’s one that probably wasn’t even truly an option a few weeks ago. That option, according to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, is offering Vlahovic to terminate his contract this summer to make a clean and swift break with the extremely expensive Serbian striker. Vlahovic, who has one year left to go on a contract that currently has him as the highest-paid player in Serie A at €12 million net a season. Between the lack of production over the last 12 months, an overall stock that is much lower compared to when Juventus bought him from Fiorentina in January 2022 and a total lack of interest from virtually every club in Europe’s top five leagues that can actually afford.

Therefore, the Vlahovic is nonexistent. And if Juventus want to actually be rid of Vlahovic once and for all, buying out the final year of his contract may well end up being the only legitimate option they currently have.

How much would all of this cost Juventus? According to Di Marzio, it would be around €24 million — which is the gross salary number that Vlahovic carries into the final year of his current contract at Juventus.

That’s ... a lot.

But, here’s the thing: Based on what’s been reported, Vlahovic isn’t exactly willing to go anywhere for any sort of significant discount. Hell, he doesn’t even seem willing to go to Turkey or Saudi Arabia despite the chance to earn just the same — if not more — as he does right now. The links to big English clubs have dried up. The possibility of going somewhere in Europe doesn’t seem possible unless Juventus kicked in some help to cover his massive salary.

Translation: There is no market for Vlahovic right now. And that means Juventus are basically left with two remaining options — either freeze him out of the squad and dare him to sit out until at least January, or basically pay him to go away and bite the bullet from a financial standpoint even though they’ll know he’s gone once and for all.

It’s a predicament without a doubt — and one that speaks to just how much of a massive flop Vlahovic has become as his time at Juventus has gone on. Not only could they spend a club-record transfer fee for a signing in the winter transfer window, but then pay a huge chunk of money on top of that to see him go away? That’s just ... yeah, I don’t even know what else to say.
