One Key Mental Element Gives Chiefs 'Advantage' Over NFL

Expectations for the Kansas City Chiefs this upcoming season vary greatly, but there is one common thread when we hear.

There will be a regression...but it doesn't mean the Chiefs will be a worse team.

Winning 15 games last season, no one realistically expects Kansas City to do that again in 2025, especially when the franchise was 12-0 in one-score games (including the playoffs, so the law of averages would likely see the team lose a couple of those this upcoming season.

Fox Sports analyst and former NFL offensive lineman Mark Schlereth does see a regression coming in 2025 but detailed that despite that, the Chiefs hold an advantage over the league due to one element that not many teams have.

“Well, they were 15-2 last year, so it's going to be hard for them like you can be a better football team and have a worse record,” Schlereth said. “They just have that belief that when it's rubber meets the road time, they're going to make a play that's going to put them on top. Until somebody knocks them out of that, they'll always have that advantage.”

Schlereth does have a point.

Despite the "aura" of the Chiefs not being seen as bulletproof after the Super Bowl loss, when it comes to being late in the fourth quarter and the Chiefs need to make a play, there isn't a person on the planet that would doubt this team's ability to get it done.

They have shown time and time again that when the pressure is at its highest, they just find a way to get it done. That mental aspect doesn't disappear after a Super Bowl loss.

And as Schlereth states, until we consistently see the Chiefs fail in that area, they will always have an advantage over the competition.
