SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - “You never know where God is going to push you. For some reason, he pushed me to Shreveport.”
Two-time NBA World Champion, Lamar Odom announced he’s building a K-12 academy in Kileen, Texas. It’s centered around academics and athletics. He aims to do the same in Shreveport-Bossier.
“Hopefully we can make this happen, and create some talented, confident young people in this world,” says Odom.
Aside from building confidence, Odom and fellow NBA great and Shreveport native, Stromile Swift, looks to create monsters on the hardwood.
“I think that’s what we’ve been called to do. I think by them seeing former pros like active pro athletes, I think it gives them a lot of inspiration and hope to show them that they can make it,” says Swift.
Odom’s academy looks to help curb crime in the area by giving the youth constant activities.
“If I do bring my program here, it’s going to have a great STEM program and e-gaming program to give the kids more baskets to fill,” says Odom.
Before departing, even Lamar Odom can admit the area left quite the impression on him.
“I love the warm temperature. I went to go eat at Orlandeaux’s. That was cool. After I go meet with the pastor here, I’m probably going to go out here, with Stromile, and see some things if I have the opportunity to, before I head back to Texas,” says Odom.
