Some players remain underrated even after making an impact on the field. Diogo Jota was one of them. A small boy from Gondomar dreamt of playing in the English top division league from his childhood. Diogo Jota began his career at FC Pacos. Considered a superb prodigy, Atletico Madrid bought Jota in 2016. But Jota always wanted to prove his calibre. So, he went to FC Porto on loan and indeed he proved himself there. In the very next season, Diogo took the first step to fulfill his childhood dream. Wolves brought the Portuguese forward in for the Championship. After this move, Jota didn’t have to look behind ever. In his first season with Wolves, he scored 17 goals and 6 assists. Jota took the club to the EPL. Not only did he fulfill his boyhood dream but he also gave Wolves a great run in the EPL. He played 67 matches for Wolves and bagged 16 goals. Diogo’s game upgraded to the next level. He got the international call-up from Portugal. Jota made his debut under the captaincy of his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo. It took only a few weeks for the Portuguese media to start considering him as the next ‘target man’ of Portugal. The 2019 UEFA Nations League performance was more than enough for Jota to sign at Liverpool in 2020.

Liverpool Players are All Numb in Diogo Jota’s Demise
Diogo was on his way to join his club teammates but fate had another decision. The whole Liverpool camp is in a state of shock and disbelief. Scottish left-back Andy Robertson was present at Jota’s wedding ceremony. Robertson has written an open letter to Jota and his family. Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk also couldn’t digest the news. Forward Darwin Nunez attended that wedding, too. He was also stunned to hear the sudden demise of his teammate. Salah also wrote down a painful eulogy. After the official club statement, Liverpool hoisted their flag at half-mast. Jota had 2 more years in his contract. The Premier League champions have decided not to terminate the contract. Rather, the club will pay the money to Jota’s wife and parents.
Rivals on the Field, United as a Family
Liverpool and Everton fans once again proved that the city reunites whenever it’s needed. Everton released their statement and turned their logo black and white. Everton fans joined hands with their arch rivals and gathered around the Anfield. Diogo Jota scored his last-ever goal against Everton this season. Throughout these years, Jota was a constant threat to the Everton defence. Diogo led the whole of Merseyside to victory. Today, the North West County cried together, mourned together. The players of Everton also came to Anfield to pay their last respects towards Diogo. Former Liverpool captain and Jota’s teammate, Jordan Henderson later arrived at Anfield. While recalling the good old days, he broke down and left the place. Liverpool fans sat together and paid their tribute to Jota in the best possible way. They kept on chanting the popular song for Jota. Maybe for once, some Everton fans also joined in. It was truly a black day for Liverpool, for the entire football world.
Author’s Note
As long as Liverpool thrives, Diogo Jota will be remembered. After the tragic deaths of Paul Walker and Kobe Bryant, another big name lost his life in an accident. However, it is not only about the famous ones; every life counts. Today, the world not only lost a great footballer but a wife lost his childhood love. Three children will never see their father again. The parents have lost both the sons. Diogo Jota’s legacy will live on.
