All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal as they ramp up their summer business.
Arsenal are now getting into the thick of their summer transfer business as they attempt to land their statement summer signing. The Gunners need a striker signing, and they will ensure they get one over the coming weeks, with Mikel Arteta well aware of the fact his side need a new frontman.
Andrea Berta is working hard on that front, while Arsenal are also hoping to announce a midfielder and a centre-back signing in the coming days and weeks. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Emirates Stadium.
Gyokeres latest
Arsenal are still pushing to get a deal done for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, and sporting director Andrea Berta is handing negotiations personally in Portugal. Reports on Tuesday suggested that the clubs are less than £4million apart in terms of upfront cash, so a deal could well be on the cards.
According to A Bola, Sporting are now saying they want to get a deal done by the end of the week, which could be a big boost for the Gunners. That should come as no surprise given Gyokeres has reported refused to return to training, demanding a move.
Mosquera update
Arsenal continue to be linked with a move for Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera, but it seems they are no closer to striking a deal. According to Plaza Deportiva, Los Ché are demanding £21.5million for their star centre-back, and Arsenal are only said to have bid £12.9million.
That means the two sides are a long way apart in their negotiations, and Valencia are said to be remaining calm over the situation, vowing to be unmoved until their demands are met. Mosquera is in the final year of his contract at Mestalla, which will surely be a concern for the Spanish club.
Richards on Arsenal’s business
Micah Richards has been speaking about Arsenal’s transfer efforts this summer. Addressing links with Noni Madueke on the Rest is Football Podcast, he said: “I think a striker is more important than getting Madueke in first. Madueke… where is he going to play? He’s been playing for Chelsea on the left recently. I really like him as a player, but I like him on the right and he’s not going to play ahead of Bukayo Saka, is he? So, I’m scratching my head on that one. I agree [that they need two players in every position]. But Saka is always fit normally, until he got that really bad injury.”
Speaking about Martin Zubimendi, Richards added: “I like Zubimendi. We saw him in the Euros final, when Rodri came off. Very good player, tactically really good. He’s good on the ball, really good awareness in midfield. Gyokeres is a really good striker.” Zubimendi will likely be a starter in a double pivot with Declan Rice at Arsenal, but Mikel Merino will also be battling for a starting spot after a positive first season at the club.
