Stretch big traded to Spurs in multi-player swap

The Wizards traded veteran big man Kelly Olynyk to the Spurs for young guards Malaki Branham and Blake Wesley and a 2026 second-round pick.

The Washington Wizards have traded veteran big man Kelly Olynyk to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley, and a 2026 second-round pick, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

The second-rounder will be the least favorable selection among picks from Dallas, Philadelphia, or Oklahoma City, per the same report.

This move gives the Spurs another frontcourt option behind superstar center Victor Wembanyama, following their recent signing of free agent Luke Kornet.

Olynyk, 34, is coming off a season where he shot a career-best 42% from three-point range. Over the past three seasons, he's averaged shooting splits of 52% from the field, 40% from beyond the arc, and 83% from the free-throw line.

Last season, he posted averages of 8.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 44 games split between the Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans.

The Wizards had acquired Olynyk earlier this offseason from the Pelicans in a trade involving CJ McCollum and Jordan Poole.

In return, Washington adds two young guards to its rebuilding core. Branham and Wesley, both 22, were first-round picks in the 2022 NBA Draft—Branham at No. 20 and Wesley at No. 25—along with a second-round pick in next year's draft.
