Rotherham United have taken Josh Benson and Dru Yearwood to Portugal on trials, as per the Rotherham Advertiser.
Rotherham United are looking to strengthen their midfield options and have taken two free agents who operate in that role on their pre-season tour to Portugal. RUFC are taking a closer look at the duo before a decision is made on whether or not either player should be offered a deal.
Former Barnsley man Josh Benson is one of the two who has travelled to the Algarve with the Millers, following on from his 60-minute cameo against local non-league side Parkgate last Friday.

The 25-year-old scored the opening goal in the annual encounter, though he also impressed supporters and coaching staff alike, earning a place amongst the travelling squad.
Joining him on the flight was former Brentford central midfielder Dru Yearwood. Rotherham United were initially linked to the free agent over a week ago, as Daniel Marsh of the Mirror reported that Yearwood was set to sign.
Yearwood was spotted by RUFC fans in attendance at the Parkgate pre-season fixture, though any suspicions have now been confirmed with his involvement in Portugal.
Yearwood set for return to EFL
Yearwood has spent the past few years in America, having joined New York Red Bulls in 2020. The 25-year-old played 99 times for the Red Bulls, before joining fellow MLS side Nashville SC.
The Rotherham United trialist only spent one season with Nashville, playing 28 times in all competitions until December 2024.

Prior to his spell in the States, the former Arsenal youth player spent two seasons in League One with Southend United between 2017 and 2019. Whilst in his late teenage years, having graduated from the club’s youth academy, Yearwood managed 61 appearances in all competitions in South-East Essex.
The box-to-box midfielder joined Brentford ahead of their 2019/20 Championship campaign, though only played five times for the club.
Matt Hamshaw appears to be willing to take a chance on Yearwood, despite not having had a club this calendar year.

Strength in Rotherham United’s midfield department
Should RUFC be willing to take a chance on their two trialists, Hamshaw will have strength in depth regarding his midfield options.
Currently, Rotherham United have Liam Kelly, Joe Powell, Shaun McWilliams and new signing Kian Spence available in the engine room.
If either Benson or Yearwood were to be added to that catalogue, alongside the possibility of Manchester United midfielder Dan Gore returning to the club on loan, as per Paul Davis, Rotherham United would be well stocked in that department.
