This will be Heinze’s first coaching role in Europe after spells in Argentina and the United States.

The former **Manchester United** and **Real Madrid** defender has been on Arsenal’s radar for some time. He was spotted in London back in April 2024, with **ESPN** reporting at the time that he was in talks over a possible move. According to **Fabrizio Romano**, Heinze has close ties with members of **Mikel Arteta**’s backroom team, which helped ease his appointment.
Arsenal [confirmed](https://www.arsenal.com/news/gabriel-heinze-joins-coaching-team) the move this week, saying they were pleased to welcome Heinze and his family to the club. He will now work alongside **Albert Stuivenberg**, **Nicolas Jover** and **Inaki Cana**.
Heinze, 47, won 71 caps for **Argentina** during his playing career and featured at two World Cups. He played over 400 games at club level, turning out for sides including **PSG**, **Manchester United**, **Real Madrid**, **Marseille**, and **AS Roma**.
He began coaching in 2015 and has taken charge of five clubs so far, most notably **Argentinos Juniors**, who he guided to promotion, and **Atlanta United** in **MLS**.
Heinze now takes on a key role in helping Arteta’s side build on their recent progress as they aim to compete for major trophies again this season.
