Liverpool have had some truly legendary players over the years.
Indeed, the Reds have seen some truly world-class talents plying their trade at Anfield, from Kenny Dalglish to Luis Suarez all the way to Mohamed Salah.
Salah genuinely has a claim to stake for being Liverpool’s greatest player of all-time at this point. Salah is chasing Ian Rush’s goal record, while he’s won every trophy there is to win at Anfield.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Paul Scholes has been tasked with naming who he believes is the greatest Liverpool player of all-time, and he was very clear when giving his answer.

Paul Scholes names Steven Gerrard as Liverpool’s greatest-ever player
Unsurprisingly, Paul Scholes named Steven Gerrard as the greatest player in Liverpool’s history.
Gerrard is an all-time great at Anfield, and while he didn’t win a Premier League title with the club, he carried a struggling team to some incredible moments – no more notable than the 2005 Champions League.
Liverpool have had spells of dominance in the 1970 and 80s, as well as in modern times, but perhaps their greatest player of all-time came through during a tough spell in the 2000s.

Gerrard was more than just a star player for Liverpool, he was the leader and the shining beacon of hope in what was a difficult era all-round for the Reds.

Paul Scholes, of course, knows Gerrard incredibly well from their battles on the pitch and as teammates for England.
Scholes and Gerrard are often compared, and it’s interesting to take a look at the two players’ records against one another.

Scholes won more than he lost against Gerrard over the years, but, interestingly, he only ever scored one goal in 21 matches against Gerrard’s Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Stevie G scored five goals in that time, and while he didn’t have the best win record against Scholes and Manchester United, he’d often turn up in the big moments against the Red Devils.
Liverpool fans of various different vintages would be able to make many cases for different players being the club’s greatest of all-time, but regardless of who your favourite is, Gerrard certainly has to feature in that conversation.
