Report: Major Ibrahima Konate update shared as new Liverpool 'concern' emerges

Ibrahima Konate’s Liverpool future has been questioned for some time now.

The Frenchman only has a year left on his current deal at Anfield, with questions being thrown left, right and centre about where his future could lie.

Arne Slot’s men have already gone through a free agent saga with Trent Alexander-Arnold this season, where the Englishman chose to leave his boyhood club for nothing to explore pastures new.

Although Konate’s future has been somewhat unclear over the last couple of months, a new update has emerged that may have cemented what’s likely to happen.

Ibrahima Konate has rejected two contract offers from Liverpool already

Liverpool will obviously not want to lose one of their starting centre-backs for nothing.

Indeed, the former RB Leipzig man has been a tad injury-prone over the last couple of seasons, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t still an impressive player within him.

However, as per a new report from Spanish outlet Marca, it feels like his time at Anfield could be over.

That’s because Marca report that Konate has already ‘rejected two offers’ from Liverpool regarding an extension.

The report goes on to say that the Frenchman is ‘willing’ to leave Merseyside when his contract comes to an end.

If this is Konate’s choice, Liverpool would also be ‘willing’ to sell him as they don’t want to end up losing him for nothing, like they did with Alexander-Arnold.

With this information in mind, Marca add that Liverpool now have ‘concern’ over what could lie ahead for Konate.

Liverpool could sign Marc Guehi if they sell Ibrahima Konate this summer

Since the summer transfer window opened at the start of June, the Reds have been consistently linked with a new centre-back.

Marc Guehi is the player who seems to be cropping up the most, with the Englishman available for a cut-rate fee as he also enters the final year of his deal at Crystal Palace.

Indeed, Liverpool could wait until the end of the season and allow Konate to exit Anfield for nothing and then bring Guehi in next season.

But if Liverpool want to identify a long-term successor for Virgil van Dijk, they need to get players in now, before the Dutchman also enters the final year of his deal.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could end up happening with Konate, but for now, it feels like he’s more out than in.
