In the fallout of their Super Bowl 59 victory, the Philadelphia Eagles had a few questions they needed to answer.
One of the questions-what to do with veteran tight end Dallas Goedert—was a tougher decision for Philadelphia's core group. For upwards of two months, the Eagles seemed headed toward parting ways with Goedert.
Goedert beat the trade rumors in the midst of the offseason and reached an agreement on a reworked contract to stay in Philadelphia. He spoke recently about the uncertain couple of weeks, and he couldn't seem happier to remain an Eagles.
Goedert Speaks on Offseason Rumor Mill
The soon-to-be eighth-year veteran reflected on the trade rumors in an interview with EssentiallySports, confirming his desire to stay in Philadelphia but also explaining that he was "excited" for a fresh start when things seemed to be heading that way.
"It was tougher than I would've expected," Goedert said. "I was excited to leave, and then I was sad to leave, and then I was excited to stay—there was just so much uncertainty."
The whirlwind of emotions was reeled in when both parties came to the table, agreeing to a restructured contract for 2025 at $10 million—the 13th highest-paid average annual value at the tight end position.
Since being drafted in the second round in 2018, Goedert has been a reliable target in Philadelphia's passing game. He served as the successor to Zach Ertz, who also won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2017.
Despite going through many emotions when his future was uncertain, Goedert affirmed his excitement to "run it back" with the Eagles and try to repeat as Super Bowl champions.
"I'm excited to have the opportunity to run it back with the same team, and it feels good to be staying in Philadelphia," Goedert said. "It means everything."
Goedert had 42 receptions for 496 receiving yards in just 10 games played last season. Injuries and age have become concerns over the last few seasons, as he's missed 14 games since 2022.
He suffered a knee injury in Week 13 vs the Ravens last season and was shortly placed on injured reserve.

Philadelphia's decision to retain Goedert makes sense considering their 'all-in' mentality while they have plenty of young talent on the roster on their rookie contracts. Once the time to get paid comes for young stars like Jalen Carter, Cooper DeJean, and Quinyon Mitchell, it's unlikely that the Eagles will be able to make moves to keep veterans like Goedert.
