Real Madrid are remodelling their squad this summer ready for new manager Xabi Alonso as the former Spain international returns to his former club, this time as head coach.

As such, Los Blancos have secured some extremely high profile signings, such as Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool.

Now, Madrid are set to get their other key defensive target in the form of Alvaro Carreras.

Fabrizio Romano has given his iconic “here we go” on the move, with the deal set to take place following the Club World Cup.

It’s understood that the deal is now including a player-swap element, with including Rafael Obrador, seeing the left-back replace Carreras at Benfica.

Romano reports that a verbal agreement is almost there with Obrador headed to Benfica, lining up the pair to switch places in the coming weeks.

Unfortunately this could be a slight blow for Manchester United who have a 20% sell-on clause for Carreras, negotiated when the left-back made his loan-spell with Benfica permanent last season for £5 million.

The Red Devils also included a buy-back clause, previously considering bringing the talented defender back to Old Trafford during their injury crisis which saw both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia out injured, having to rely on right-back Diogo Dalot to cover the left-back role.

However, United recently informed Benfica they have no intentions of triggering the clause, paving a way for Real Madrid to sign their man.

This does mean however, with the inclusion of Obrador, that the fee paid to United could be much less than expected, depending on how much of the transfer fee the player makes up.
