Manchester United find themselves in a difficult position of needing to rebuild their squad to bounce back from last season, whilst having limited finances to do so.

Adding to the difficulty, United don’t even have European football next season to use as a lure, coming 15th in the Premier League and missing out on a wildcard qualification to the Champions League when they lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

As such, The Red Devils have either already missed out on some of their key targets or are set to very soon.

Liam Delap has already joined Chelsea, Viktor Gyokeres is closing in on a move to Arsenal, whilst Victor Osimhen is now looking at making his loan move to Galatasaray permanent.

Now, United are set to miss out on yet another one of their targets, this time in the midfield.

Taking to X, Nicolo Schira has reported that Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios is edging close to a move to AS Roma.

The Italian side are closing in on his move to Serie A, with personal terms now agreed in principle for a five year contract, earning Rios £2.24 million per season.

It’s also understood that the offer for the talented midfielder is sitting at around £20 million, however it’s unknown how the Brazilian side feel about this valuation.

The 25-year-old has been on display at the Club World Cup, helping his side get to the Quarter-Finals ultimately being knocked out by Chelsea.

A move to Roma will be the start of Rios’ European career however, having risen through the Flamengo academy before having a stint with Guarani before joining Palmeiras in 2023.

Richard #Rios is getting closer to #ASRoma from #Palmeiras. Agreement in principle between the midfielder and #Roma for a contract until 2030 (€2,6M/year). Giallorossi are ready to offer €23-25M to the brazilian club to try to sign him. #transfers
