Of the top nine touchdown scorers in the NFL in the 2024 season, four were Alabama alumni. Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs led the league with 20 touchdowns. Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry scored 18 touchdowns, Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs scored 16 and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts scored 14.
But the leading scorer from an Alabama high school or college in the NFL’s 2024 season didn’t score any touchdowns. Former Auburn standout Daniel Carlson scored 125 points kicking for the Las Vegas Raiders. That boosted Carlson past Pro Football Hall of Fame charter member Don Hutson into fifth place on the NFL career points list among players with Alabama football roots.
Henry also is in the state’s top 10 scorers. With 106 rushing touchdowns in his career, Henry is tied with Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Brown for sixth in NFL history, and that’s made King Henry the eighth player from an Alabama high school or college to surpass 600 NFL points.
With six touchdown receptions in 2024, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill reached the state’s top 10 scorers. His entrance in the rankings pushed out former Auburn kicker Cody Parkey.
Even with Parkey’s departure, four players on the Alabama-roots scoring list are former Auburn kickers, with Al Del Greco at the top with 1,584 points accumulated in 17 NFL seasons.
The most kicking points scored in an NFL season by a player from an Alabama high school or college are 150, established by Parkey with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014 and equaled by Carlson in 2021.
But that’s not the Alabama-roots record for points in an NFL season. Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander scored 168 on 28 touchdowns in 2005, an output that ranks third in NFL history.
