From Portugal: Gyokeres to Arsenal deal 'stalls' as 'all-out war' predicted in 'next few hours'

Arsenal’s pursuit of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres is stalling, according to reports in Portugal.

The Gunners have earmarked the Sweden international as their priority target to boost Mikel Arteta’s attacking options this summer but may now have hit a stumbling block in their chase.

Portuguese newspaper Record claims that Arsenal chiefs flew to Portugal to try to reach an agreement with Sporting for Gyokeres, but returned without a deal despite two days of discussions.

Arsenal are believed to have presented an offer worth €65m plus €15m in add-ons, which Sporting found unsatisfactory as they are demanding a fixed fee of €70m.

According to Record, Gyokeres’ move to Arsenal is now ‘in danger’ after Arsenal failed to reach an agreement over the transfer fee with Sporting.

There are even claims the next few hours could bring an ‘all-out war’ for the 26-year-old forward, as neither side has shown any willingness to compromise since Sunday.

Gyokeres is believed to be prioritising a move to the Emirates this summer, despite a potential opportunity to reunite with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

The Sweden international has evolved into one of the best strikers in Europe during his two years in Portugal, scoring 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting.

Arsenal’s summer business has gathered pace in recent days, with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi announced as the first two signings.

Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard’s arrival is expected to follow, after clubs agreed on a package worth £12m.
