Man United Backed To Sign 38 Year Old Striker (With 237 Career Goals) If They Lose Out On Gyokeres

Jamie O’Hara claims Manchester United should not discount Jamie Vardy as an option to strengthen their attack.

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, O’Hara suggested that the former Leicester and England striker could be signed as a short-term solution up front if the Red Devils fail to secure the services of Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres:

“Who is to say Jamie Vardy wouldn’t be a good option for Man United if they can’t get Viktor Gyokeres over the line?”

“It looks like Gyokeres could be heading to Arsenal, so United need to start looking at alternatives and Vardy fits the bill.”

Vardy has been offered to Man United

The Athletic reported on Monday that the 38-year-old (who has scored 237 goals in his senior career) was proposed as an option to the Red Devils by agents, along with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Callum Wilson.

All three strikers are now free agents, having been let go by their respective clubs at the end of last month.

Mbeumo is still the top target

While Ruben Amorim’s side are believed to be interested in bringing in a No.9 before the end of the transfer window, the main focus of Director of Football Jason Wilcox is getting a deal over the line for Bryan Mbeumo.

Brentford are reportedly waiting for a third bid to be lodged, having already rejected two offers. United’s last proposal was said to be worth £55m up front, with another £7.5m due in add-ons.

It has been suggested that both Mbeumo and Brentford are getting impatient with the lack of progress on the deal. It has now been the best part of two and a half weeks since the last bid was made.
