Wolves’ pre-season is now getting underway – and fans want to see some new faces.
So far, Fer Lopez has been the only arrival at Molineux this summer, with Wolves seeing a number of players depart the club.
There are some nerves within the fanbase at the moment, and Wolves could really do with getting some new faces in before much longer.
It cannot be overstated how important this period is for new signings to settle in. We saw Jorgen Strand Larsen thrive last term, after he was brought in quite early in the summer, and Rodrigo Gomes also did quite well when called upon.
Wolves are still after another number 10, after signing Lopez.
Harvey Elliott has been on Wolves’ radar, but with an asking price of over £40 million, which has potentially even increased after his exploits with the England U21s at the European Championships, he might be a non-starter for Wanderers.
But James McAtee is also someone Wolves have looked at, with a claim being made that he was being earmarked to replace Matheus Cunha – and a potentially positive update has been offered on the Manchester City youngster this morning.

McAtee has a lot of interest in him this summer, after failing to break into City’s starting XI as a regular in 2024/25.

He mainly made substitute appearances, and City are open to selling him in this window.
Everyone saw how Cole Palmer flourished after leaving City, and some feel McAtee may have the potential to shine to a similar level, hence why so many clubs are interested.
Wolves were linked earlier in the summer, and there is an argument to say that McAtee would be a great alternative to Elliott. He’d certainly be a lot cheaper.

And today, journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested McAtee may actually be available for as little as £20 million.
He said on X: “James McAtee can leave Manchester City this summer for fee around £20/25m.
“Bundesliga, Premier League and Serie A clubs are showing interest in Euro U21 winner with England as captain. Atalanta are among clubs well informed on his situation.”
Previously, the McAtee asking price had reportedly been £25 million.
So word that City could now accept £20 million might place Wolves on alert. That said, given how strong the competition is to sign him, it could be a difficult deal to pull off.
McAtee would be an exciting signing for Wolves
All eyes are on who Wolves will go for after selling Cunha to Manchester United.
Evann Guessand would have been a great option for Wolves, but seemingly he was not receptive to an approach.
McAtee could potentially be a really solid option though.

He is obviously not a powerful ball-carrier like Cunha, but can certainly do damage with his technical ability and quality in the small spaces.
Jorgen Strand Larsen will need a healthy supply line next season, and McAtee – who has been branded ‘a special, talented player’ previously by Pep Guardiola – in the spaces around him could be a winning formula.
