Newcastle United have exciting youth prospects coming through their ranks
Jamie, Lewis, Mason and Layton Miley after Newcastle United's Carabao Cup win against Liverpool
Newcastle United have handed new scholarship deals to 11 academy youngsters, including Mason Miley - the younger brother of Lewis and Jamie Miley.
The 16-year-old, also a midfielder, has been pulling up trees behind the scenes at Little Benton, impressing coaches with performances in Newcastle under-18 games of late. Miley also picked up the NUFC 'U16's Values Award' at the end of the season.
The talented teen only signed his most recent scholarship deal back in November and is on course to land his first professional deal with the club, when eligible, at the age of 17.
There is hope Mason can become the third member of the Miley family to emerge through the ranks and into the first-team after Lewis' success under Eddie Howe and Jamie's pre-season opportunities before leaving the club for Hartlepool.
Meanwhile, the youngest of the Miley siblings, Layton, is currently impressing in Middlesbrough's youth ranks after previously being looked at by Sunderland.
Jamie Miley, in a recent interview with Chronicle Live, gave all the credit to parents Mick and Maxine for their unwavering support over the years. "They have got us to this position," he said.
"I'm so pleased that they never gave up. I remember some days when my mam would be taking me and Lewis to Newcastle when we were younger and my dad would have Mason at Beamish, his boys club, and Layton when he was really young.
"My grandparents on both sides have also had to sacrifice so much and put so much time into us, but it's such a joy now to see where we all are as a family. It's paid off."
Miley's name on the list of retained scholars stands out but other youngsters, namely Sam Alabi and Michael Mills, catch the eye too. Newcastle fans may be unfamiliar with the duo but scouts in the north east went to great lengths to bring them to Tyneside in the immediate post-takeover years.
Alabi, 15, was nabbed from Oldham Athletic back in 2023, initially being placed in the club's under-15 and 16 departments. The midfielder has already featured heavily for the under-18's and has trained with Howe's senior side on occasion. Excited fans have already dubbed Alabi as a 'mini Paul Pogba'.
Mills, another talented attacking midfielder, cost Newcastle £150,000 as they signed him from Port Vale. The 16-year-old is another who has been playing above his age range, featuring in the FA Youth Cup for the under-18's this season, as well as England's under-16s.
