Tijjani Reijnders looks set for an exciting career at Manchester City.
Man City signed Reijnders as part of a £48m deal with AC Milan this summer, and the arrival of the Dutch star has fans of the Manchester club excited, as the 26-year-old was exactly what Pep Guardiola needed as part of his midfield revamp ahead of the upcoming season.
The Netherlands international has already made his debut for City during the FIFA Club World Cup, and the early glimpses of the midfielder showed that the former Milan star could be a huge player for Man City over the next 12 months and beyond.
Man City helped Rodri win the Ballon d’Or in 2024, and if Reijnders can reach that level during his time in England, it has become public knowledge how much the Manchester club will need to pay AC Milan in bonuses.

Breakdown of the bonuses in Tijjani Reijnders’ Man City contract
Fabrizio Romano reported the breakdown of the fee Man City would pay AC Milan for Reijnders at the time the move was completed, with the transfer expert stating that the Premier League club will part ways with an initial €57m (£48m), but bonuses could take the deal to €70m (£59m).
Speaking on his YouTube channel, journalist Daniele Longo has provided a full breakdown of the Dutch star’s contract, which includes how much Man City would be required to pay Milan if the midfielder wins a Ballon d’Or.

As mentioned before, Man City have paid Milan an initial €57m (£48m) for Reijnders, but the Italian club will also receive €5m if City qualify for the Champions League this season, €2m if Guardiola’s men win the competition, and €1m should the Manchester club win the Premier League.
On a more personal level, Man City will have to pay out €2m if Reijnders wins the Ballon d’Or, €1m if he wins the Premier League’s Player of the Year, €1m if the Dutch star stays until 2030, €1m if the 26-year-old stays until 2031, another €1m if he stays until 2032, and finally, another €1m if the midfielder stays until 2033.
A lot of these bonuses are easily achievable, which means Man City will be paying out a lot more for the signing of Reijnders. However, fans of the club won’t care if the Dutch star lives up to their expectations.
Can Tijjani Reijnders win a Ballon d’Or
The question Man City fans will now be asking themselves is, can Reijnders win a Ballon d’Or? That task will be very difficult given the award favours attacking players, but the upcoming season provides the 26-year-old with exceptional circumstances that could aid the midfielder’s dream.
Should Reijnders play a prominent role in Man City getting their hands back on the Premier League this season, as well as winning other trophies, that would set a solid foundation for the 26-year-old to collect football’s biggest individual award.

What would then make the former Milan star a strong contender is if Reijnders became the protagonist in the Netherlands winning the 2026 World Cup next summer, in a similar way Rodri was for Spain during Euro 2024.
This part of the agreement is a fee Milan will not be expecting to receive, but when talking about a player of the Dutch star’s talent, the Serie A club will certainly not rule it out.
