Alvaro Carreras is one the verge of his move to Real Madrid, as Los Blancos have been pursuing the left-back for some time.

With Manchester United informing Benfica they have no intention of triggering their clause to buy Carreras back, returning him to Old Trafford, the door is wide open for Madrid.

It’s understood that a deal has now been made to see the 22-year-old move to the Spanish capital, set to complete after the Club World Cup, with Xabi Alonso’s side set to face PSG this evening in the Semi-Finals.

Whilst United are choosing not to reunite with their former defender, the Red Devils are still set to benefit from his departure from Benfica.

Alongside the buy-back clause agreed with his permanent move from Old Trafford is a sell-on clause for 20%.

As such, with a release clause of £42 million (€50 million), it’s been expected that United will be earning around £8.2 million (€10 million).

However, the inclusion of Rafael Obrador may have affected this.

With the final details of the Alvaro Carreras deal still unknown, we’re unsure if they are being treated as two completely separate deals, or as a player-plus-cash deal.

In the event of Obrador being a part of the fee for Carreras, Transfermarkt only has the left-back valued at £430,000 (€500,000).

As such, providing both parties are in-line with this valuation, United will still be earning upwards of £8 million (€9.2 million) in the move.

Whilst this isn’t much in the grand scheme of United’s financial pressures, it’s still a much-need injection of funds to help keep the Red Devils away from any risk of Profit and Sustainability Rules breaches.
