Jordan Henderson has said goodbye to Ajax at their training camp today, opening the door to rumours about a return to Sunderland.
De Telegraaf cover the situation today, explaining that Henderson has travelled to Ajax’s training camp in Zeist today to say goodbye to his teammates.
He had been handed extended leave by Ajax to deal with the loss of former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota, who he played alongside during his time at Anfield.
Henderson has now returned to Amsterdam following that and is now set to leave the Dutch club. They value his sporting mentality and experience but his salary is considered too heavy for the budget and so all parties have decided to go their separate ways.
The England international has now said goodbye to his Ajax teammates, pushing that process further forward. Where he ends up next is yet to be determined.
An emotional return to Sunderland has been mooted this summer as they make their return to the Premier League. They’ve already been busy signing new players and now the door may be open for Henderson too, as he says goodbye to Ajax and eyes up his next step.
