Crystal Palace are ready to submit an instant appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) if they lose their Europa League place, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League side qualified for the competition after beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May to get their hands on their first-ever major trophy.

Co-owner John Textor’s ownership of Lyon has presented a stumbling block after they also qualified for the Europa League, with Uefa’s rules prohibiting clubs controlled by the same owners or directors from competing in the same European competition.

The governing body has postponed a decision on whether to allow Palace to play in the Europa League until after Lyon’s domestic appeal against their relegation to Ligue 2.

The French side’s appeal will take place on Wednesday (9 July), with L’Equipe reporting the club need to raise €200million (£173million) to reverse their demotion to the second tier.

However, Uefa isn’t expected to rule on Palace’s position in the Europa League until the end of the week.

Sources have told Football Insider Selhurst Park chiefs are ready to submit an instant appeal to CAS if the verdict goes against the club.

The international body, which is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, settles sports-related disputes through arbitration and mediation.

It’s currently unclear whether CAS would overturn any decision against Palace after Drogheda United’s appeal against their dismissal from the Conference League was rejected last month.

The Irish Premier Division club and Danish side Silkeborg make up part of the Trivela Group’s multi-club model, with both sides qualifying for the third-tier European competition.

Crystal Palace have breached Uefa’s rules

Palace have argued Textor doesn’t hold any decisive influence at Selhurst Park.

However, finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Uefa believes Palace have breached the ownership rules after delaying its decision on their Europa League place.

Textor has agreed to sell his shares in the south London club to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson as he looks to boost their chances of receiving the green light from Uefa.

The American billionaire’s Eagle Football Holdings owns a 43 per cent stake at Selhurst Park.

Arsenal make move to sign Crystal Palace star

Palace are also facing uncertainty over whether some of their star players will remain at Selhurst Park ahead of next season.

Football Insider revealed on 30 June Arsenal have enquired about Eberechi Eze’s availability and have held talks with his representatives over a move to the Emirates Stadium.

However, the Gunners are unsure if they want to activate the 27-year-old’s £68million release clause and will assess alternative transfer targets before making a decision.

The England international, who has also been linked with Tottenham this summer, registered 14 goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances in the 2024-25 season.
