After being selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Strange saw minimal usage as a pass catcher during his rookie season as he finished Year 1 with just 9 targets, of which he secured 5 for 35 yards and a single score. His role was largely subjected to special teams work and blocking in the run game.

Year 2, however, offered more opportunities. With starting tight end Evan Engram dealing with injuries throughout the 2024 season, Strange was able to prove that he was ready for a larger role in the offense. He took advantage of his increased workload on his way to 40 receptions for 411 yards and 2 touchdowns while looking like a starting-caliber tight end in the process.

He looked so much like a starter that the team moved on from Engram this offseason. Strange is firmly entrenched as a major piece of the Liam Coen offense in 2025.

In Coen’s lone season as the offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay, Bucs tight end Cade Otton’s targets skyrocketed as he went from 67 targets in 2023 to a whopping 87 last season (11th among TEs). Coen used Otton as a real chess piece, as he lined up in-line, outside, and as a big slot. He was also a weapon when in motion. The scheme allowed Otton to become a reliable safety outlet for Baker Mayfield, which is the hope for what Strange can be for Trevor Lawrence this season.

Strange has all the tools to be a real weapon in this new Jaguars offense. His breakout could go a long way in what has a chance to be a dynamic passing attack in 2025.
