Jordan Henderson set for third new club since Liverpool exit after bold transfer decision

Jordan Henderson is set to leave Ajax having decided against taking up the option to extend his contract with the Dutch giant.

Former Liverpool captain Henderson joined Ajax in January 2024, but his time there ended in disappointment as Ajax won just one of its final five games of the season to give up a huge lead at the top of the table and ultimately surrender the league title to PSV Eindhoven.

Henderson looked set to leave Ajax in January when he was heavily linked with a move to Monaco, and it now sounds as though his time in Amsterdam is up.

The Times reports that there is interest in Henderson from clubs in Europe as well as in England; Sunderland — Henderson's boyhood club — is back in the Premier League after an eight-year absence.

Henderson left Liverpool when his contract expired in 2023, joining Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, but he only stayed there for a matter of months before returning to Europe with Ajax.

The 35-year-old was back on Merseyside in sad circumstances last week, as he traveled to Anfield to pay tribute to his late former teammate Diogo Jota.

Henderson laid flowers as well as a Liverpool scarf containing the words 'You'll Never Walk Alone,' and he was visibly emotional as he wiped away tears outside the stadium that he and Jota used to play alongside each other in.
