Southampton manager Will Still could potentially be affected as Leeds United want to sign Shea Charles this transfer window.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and impressed many with his performances at Hillsborough.

Charles now has admirers at Elland Road, with the Whites hoping to add more depth to their engine room this summer after winning Premier League promotion.

Daniel Farke could soon have Sean Longstaff at his disposal, and the Saints’ defensive midfielder could follow him, which may disappoint Still.

Still to resist Leeds United transfer approach for Charles

Still should resist any approach from Leeds for Charles at Southampton this summer, Don Goodman says.

The Sky Sports pundit believes the Belgium-born manager will want to see the 21-year-old in training to see what he can bring to the Saints in the Championship.

Goodman feels the Northern Ireland international could contribute a lot at the Hampshire outfit, making his potential move to Elland Road arguably a massive blow for them.

Speaking to Football League World (9 July), he said: “Unequivocally, yes, Still should be resisting any overtures from Leeds. I think he will want to see Charles in training, want to understand what he can offer Southampton next season in the Championship, which I believe would be a lot.”

Farke needs more midfielders at Leeds after Premier League promotion

Sunderland have signed Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki, two midfielders Leeds were targeting this summer.

The Elland Road faithful will arguably be happier about potentially sealing a move for Longstaff, who has shown his qualities in the English top flight over the years.

Apart from the Newcastle midfielder, the West Yorkshire outfit should arguably push for further additions to the engine room this summer.

Joe Rothwell has joined Rangers after an impressive loan spell at Leeds, and Josuha Guilavogui has also left.

Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev’s injuries last season forced the Whites to scramble for midfield reinforcements and sign the Frenchman in October.

The West Yorkshire outfit can’t leave themselves in a similar position, as Premier League survival will undoubtedly be difficult without impressive squad depth.

Charles seems to have a big future ahead, and whether that will be at Elland Road remains to be seen.
